Steak Kabobs
If you’re looking to impress your dinner guests at your next cookout, make these Beef Kabobs! They’re lean, tender, full of flavor, and allergy friendly. Thread on a variety of your favorite vegetables and you’ve got a healthy dish that is sure to satisfy!
Ingredients for Beef Kabobs:
- Sirloin Steak– This cut of beef is lean, flavorful, juicy, and tender.
- Bell Peppers– Choose your favorite color peppers. I prefer the taste and look of red, yellow, and/or orange.
- Onion– Red onions are more mild and very tasty roasted on the grill. Sweet onions are another great option.
- Zucchini– Try to get zucchini that are only 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter so everything threaded on the kabob can lay flat against the grill when cooking.
Ingredients for Marinade:
- Olive oil– This is one of the healthiest oils. Oil helps balance acidic flavors, retain moisture, and transfer fat-soluble flavors.
- Soy Sauce– Not only does it add a nice savory umami flavor, but it also helps tenderize and create a caramelized color that make it look more appetizing.
- Garlic– Fresh crushed garlic has the best flavor.
- Worcestershire sauce- This has a strong umami flavor. It tastes tangy, sweet, and savory.
- Lemon Juice & Vinegar– These add some flavor and the acid tenderizes the meat.
- Dijon Mustard– Just a little is needed to add flavor.
- Pepper– Fresh cracked black pepper provides a better and stronger flavor.

FAQs
Sirloin! This cut of steak is lean, tender, and not too expensive. Marinating the meat for 3-6 hours not only adds flavor but helps tenderize the meat. If only marinating for 30-60 minutes, a more tender (yet expensive) cut should be used like filet mignon or beef tenderloin.
It depends! Bamboo Skewers are best for steak kabobs because they don’t conduct heat so the meat won’t get over cooked. Bamboo skewers should be soaked in water to prevent burning. I like to start soaking them when I start marinating the meat.
Flat Metal Skewers are sturdier and can be reused. Be sure to get the FLAT ones otherwise your food will spin around on the skewer and be difficult to flip and cook evenly.
Oil is used in marinades to help transfer the fat soluble flavors into the meat. It also helps keep the meat moist.

TOOLS USED TO MAKE STEAK KABOBS:
- Knife Set– This set comes with all the knives you need and they are of great quality (going on 12 years in my home!).
- Cutting Board– I love having various sizes of cutting boards and these are awesome because they won’t slip and slide around on the counter.
- Bamboo Skewers– These are one time use skewers but wood skewers are best for cooking steak because they don’t conduct heat so the meat stays moist, juicy, and tender.
- Propane Grill– This 4 burner grill has ample amount of space to grill your meat and vegetables to perfection!
