Hot Fudge
Hot Fudge Sundaes are one of my favorite easy go-to dessert recipes. It’s great for enjoying with the family and fancy enough to serve to dinner guests. Since it’s made with common shelf stable ingredients, we always have what we need to throw it together last minute. We also always have a carton (or 3) of ice cream in our freezer.
Ingredients for Hot Fudge:
- Chocolate Chips– Use high quality chocolate chips such as Gharidelli, Guittard, or Nestle. Dark chocolate creates a richer fudge but semi-sweet can be used instead. Milk chocolate chips are too sweet for this recipe.
- Evaporated Milk– This is a shelf stable milk sold in a can in the baking aisle. It is thicker and creamier than whole milk, more similar to half-and-half cream.
- Sugar– Granulated sugar is used in this recipe to add sweetness.
How to make Hot Fudge Sauce:
Time needed: 11 minutes
- Combine
Place all ingredients in a 2-quart saucepan.
- Boil
Cook over medium heat, stirring often with a whisk. Bring to a gentle boil and let boil while stirring for 1-2 minutes or until desired thickness. (Sauce thickens as it cool down.)
- Use and Store
Let cool for 5-10 minutes. Serve over ice cream. Store in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
FAQ
If needed, substitute 1 (12 ounce) can of evaporated milk with 1 cup milk (skim, 1%, 2%) + 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Or 3/4 cup milk (skim, 1%, 2%) + 3/4 cup half-and-half cream.
TOOLS USED TO MAKE THIS HOT FUDGE SAUCE:
- Whisk– I prefer this narrow whisk when cooking sauces in a skillet compared to the balloon whisk I use when mixing batters in a bowl.
- Pot & Skillet Set– These are the skillets and pots I use. They have a heavy bottom making them sturdy and cook the food evenly. I use these multiple times a day.
- Stainless Steel Measuring Cups– I love these measuring cups! They’re sturdy, pretty and it has every size measuring cup and spoon! I can’t stand sets that don’t come with 2/3 and 3/4 cups.
