Well, to hear more about these delicious Black Bean and Chicken Fajitas and get the recipe, head over to Enjoy Every Bite where I’m guest posting today. But continue reading if you want to hear about this sweet little baby girl of mine:
Carly is 19 months! I can’t believe how the time has flown. It’s like she was born yesterday but at the same time forever ago. Sometimes I find myself saying I don’t want her to grow up but I’m always pleasantly surprised at how much more fun and exciting it is to see her learn and grow each day. So here are some tidbits about Carly, mostly for my sake so I can look back and remember her little quirks.
-Her favorite show is “Ba” (Barney). When I need to hop in the shower and keep her distracted from hurting herself or making mess I’ll start Barney and as soon as the music starts she squeals, claps her hands, and stomps her feet.
-She is learning new words everyday. Yesterday the word of the day was apple. I hadn’t given her apple slices in a while but I cut one up and told her it was an apple not expecting her to say it but she said “abble”. And then she just kept saying it because I got excited. I should really sit down and count all the words she knows but I’ll just list a few of our favorite that she says: “nnnnack” (fruit snacks), “juuuuice” (juice), “gunga” (milk), “paba” (paper), “ma-maa” (mom), “el” (elephant) -she is actually really scared of elephants, “cheeeeeeze” (cheese)…
-We got her a doctor kit so she says “bum ba, bum ba” and taps her chest whenever she hears the word “heart” or sees one. The other day at the grocery store she started saying that and I was really confused until I looked over at the floral department and saw big hearts on the wall.
-I discovered how to get her to sit still so I can do her hair! Just giver her a bunch of clips (those kind that bend and snap) and have her drop them into a water bottle. Why do I even buy toys?!
-Back in the fall I went to a consignment sale and picked up a Mr. & Mrs. Potato head set for $6 bucks. Best $6 I’ve spent all year! I hid them from her until Christmas and now she plays with them multiple times a day. She hasn’t figured out how to properly make a face but it’s fun to see that she can match similar pieces. Sometimes she just likes to carry all the ears or all the arms. She was really obsessed with the arms for awhile and I even found a few in my bed. Usually her potato head ends up having 5 arms with one of them sticking out the top of the head and then 2-3 pairs of eyes.
-She loves to be tickled, teased, and surprised… as well as kissed.
-Besides clips and Mr. Potato head, her other favorite toy is a box. I got this Lowel EGO Digital Imaging Light for my birthday and Carly is obsessed with the box. She thinks she’s just so cool when she stands on it (it’s only 4 inches high). It’s really helped her to learn to climb and overcome her fear of going down steps or really anything that is slightly lower than the surface she’s on. Seriously, a few months ago at the mall play area she kept crying because she was afraid to step down off a mat that was 2 inches high. Oh and Costco boxes are pretty fun too. She loves to sit in them and play.
-Other activities include: spinning, falling down, standing up and repeating… for 5 minutes; running around me a bazillion times; taking big steps while saying “Hop! Hop!” (she got that from Barney); sitting/cuddling on daddy’s lap watching Barney while daddy studies; climbing any stairs she can find but not being able to go down.
-She provides us with constant background music during each meal by saying/moaning “mmmm, mmmm, mmmm” with each bite she takes.
-She will fold her hands when we say prayer but for like 2 seconds.
-Four months ago she would give everyone at the store a stink-eye but now she says “hi” and “bye” to almost everyone.
-When other children are around we become invisible to her. She is really going to love having a baby sibling come July!
-What I absolutely love most about Carly though is her sweet sweet spirit. She is just so gentle and loving. She is a little cuddle bug with both mommy and daddy and even has a few other favorites of our friends and family who she just loves.
-She loves to blow kisses and will often even do it without us saying anything.
-Oh and another thing we love is her patting our backs when we hold her.
We are so grateful to have Carly as our daughter and are excited to watch her continue to grow, learn, and show her personality even more.

She is darling! Isn’t it crazy how they go from babies to toddlers just over night?? Johnny used to LOVE to spin and got many bruises to prove it!

Thanks Elizabeth! It’s definitely going by way too fast!
